A Semantic Web hacking utility which will be documented here.

Source is available from github, though there's no guarantee it'll work at all until first release.

Overview

Scute is a small, dedicated, standalone, free and open source (license) Java desktop tool designed to help with various common tasks encountered when working by hand with RDF data. It is targeted primarily at developers and experimenters, but hopefully it should also provide a useful learning/teaching tool. (It's a baby-steps attempt at the Semantic Web in a Box idea).

There are already plenty of fairly sophisticated tools out there (see Scute:Similar_Applications), but when working on early prototype material or rough & ready data input, such tools can be overkill. On the other hand, skipping between lots of little unconnected tools - text editors, command-line tools, online editors, validators, query engines etc - seems a really inefficient way of working (at least if, like me, you're not so hot on shell scripting). This hacky, close-to-the-wire side of development is the main target.

Scute is pronounced Ssssscccccccccccyyyyuuuooooooooooooooooooooooooooot

Status

2012-01-22 : after neglecting it for many months, I've started picking this back up again (I wanted an RDF-friendly text editor...). Looking back, the graph vs. file modeling/handling had got very confused, currently trying to make sane/

2011-03-29 : as below. Won't be releasing a build for another couple of weeks (though feel free to nosey around the source etc.). I just changed the handling of syntax files vs. model and haven't yet got everything in line with it, so right now it don't save the Turtle... Have been using the SPARQL bits daily, that part's not bad.

2011-03-07 : as below, SPARQL stuff proving time-consuming. Still a lot to do elsewhere, unlikely to be polished for 30th March release so that will be vewy vewy quiet...

2011-02-24 : as below, progressing nicely. Moved basic SPARQL stuff from v. 0.6 to 0.5 as there are a bunch of queries I need to write.

2011-01-26 : there isn't a release ready yet, but much of the functionality required for Version 0.5 (see below) is in place.
